Special win for super sub

- BY DAVID YATES

JONBON and understudy jockey James Bowen powered to a resurgent triumph in a BetMGM Clarence House Chase that proved racing's drama isn't confined to the track.

Having been unveiled as JP McManus’ retained rider for next season, Harry Cobden was due to don the famous green-and-gold colours on Nicky Henderson’s stable stalwart.

But a fall earlier on the card saw Cobden stood down for the big race - his absence was relayed 27 minutes prior to the off - and opened the door for Bowen to partner Jonbon in the four-runner Grade One, for which Willie Mullins’ Il Etait Temps went off the 2-5 hotpot.
