Give struggling families a break

UNTIL fairly recently I wouldn’t have been fussed by the news that the cost of half-term flights has tripled in the past 25 years.

I would have shrugged my shoulders at the moans of parents saying it’s too expensive to take their sprogs away during the school hols.

“Don't have kids then,” I would have smugly said.

Or I'd have sighed with disdain at any teachers who complained they were dealt an unfair hand when it came to their holiday costs.

Boo hoo, you have far too much time off anyway.

I would have agreed with Eamonn Holmes, who said: “There's a reason it’s called school term and that is all those kids should be at school, not elsewhere.”

But that stance has flown out of the window now I have school-aged kids.
