'WITHOUT MERCY'

AN IRANIAN warship was torpedoed “without mercy” by a US submarine in the Indian Ocean, widening the battlefield of the escalating war with Tehran.

The dramatic strike, captured on video released by the Pentagon, marks the first time a warship has been torpedoed by a sub in active combat since the Falklands War in 1982.

US defence secretary Pete Hegseth said: “America is winning, decisively, devastatingly and without mercy. More waves are coming.”

He also revealed American forces “hunted down and killed” the head of an Iranian unit accused of plotting to assassinate Donald Trump.

The former Fox News presenter said at the Pentagon: “Iran tried to kill President Trump, and President Trump got the last laugh.”

It emerged as the death toll in Iran climbed past 1000 since fighting began, according to the US-based group Human Rights Activists.

And last night a US official told Fox News that thousands of US and Israel-backed Kurdish fighters have reportedly launched a ground offensive in Iran. Hegseth made clear the war was entering a more aggressive phase four days after the first strikes, remaining in its “early” stages.

He said: “As President Trump said, more and larger waves are coming. We are just getting started. We are accelerating, not decelerating.”
