Greg says board would need to sell Stevie G or Del on job.. not other way

- ANDY NEWPORT

WHICH ONE IS ON TRIAL HERE? NEITHER

ONE'S a master salesman, the other an elite-level legend whose name alone sells itself.

But if Rangers' American owners are to get either Derek McInnes or Steven Gerrard to buy into their vision of the future, then Greg Stewart reckons they're going to need to put on a far more convincing pitch than Russell Martin ever managed during his short-lived spell at Ibrox.

The former Gers forward is one of the few men to have played under both gaffers.

Table-topping Hearts boss McInnes and former titlewinning Ibrox manager Gerrard are leading the way with fans as they draw up their wish list for successors to sacked Martin.

But Stewart is far from sure either will be willing to risk their reputation on a squad that looks miles off this year's title pace, having spilled points in six league games out of seven.

That, however, is not to say they shouldn't try The 35-year-old knows both men well. He has signed for McInnes three times - twice at Aberdeen and once for Kilmarnock-while he spent two years working alongside Gerrard's Gers as they eventually halted Celtic's quest for 10 in a row.

And he can think of no better candidates to Make Rangers Great Again if only they can be persuaded to clean up Martin's mess. Asked by Record Sport who he'd go for, Stewart gave a pained expression as he said: "That's a tough question to answer! "I'll tell you what, though. I don't know if Derek would come now. I was at Aberdeen when he was approached to become Rangers manager the last time and knocked it back.

"I remember the players all thinking he had left the club because he didn't show up for training for two days.
