IURIE IOVU reckons St Mirren's success this season has given other teams hope they can do something similar in the Scottish Cup.

The Dundee United star is certainly hoping his side can have the same success as the Buddies, who went all the way in the Premier Sports Cup.

Jim Goodwin's side start their Scottish Cup assault at home to Ayr this afternoon and the Moldovan said: “It is always good to go as fast as you possibly can in the cup.

“We want to try and win it. With a few games you can arrive in a final.

“We had a good example this season with St Mirren. It shows anything is possible. It is not always Celtic and Rangers who are winning.

“Of course, usually in cup games managers change players and give chances to other personnel.

“It is always a gamble, it can be good or bad. It is a chance for us to go as far as possible.

Ayr might be in the Championship but United won't be taking them lightly.
