This trend for shorts in chilly weather just leaves me cold

SOMETHING that has genuinely perplexed me the year turned is the growing trend of men wearing shorts all year round.

As I write this, it is 1C outside with the temperature dropping to -4C overnight.

And to be clear - these aren't men out jogging or exercising. These are ordinary, everyday activities: shopping, walking the dog, commuting to work, all undertaken in shorts as if it were midsummer.

I simply cannot fathom this trend or understand what drives it.

Today alone I've seen at least half a dozen men going about their daily routines dressed for a heatwave while the rest of us are wrapped up for winter. As for me, I'll be sticking to my coat, hat and gloves, thank you very much.

Laugh? I nearly did

I COULDN'T find the remote after the brilliant Gavin and Stacy Christmas special so we ended up watching Two Doors Down. What on earth comedy geniuses "Where's the burdz" Jonathan Watson and "Mary Doll" Elaine C Smith are doing in this - other than picking up a wage - it is beyond me.

Leaden humour, belittling rather than sending up their audience, pitiful running gags like Christine's preAlzheimic repeats of her Irish trip itinerary, clumsy insertions of the f-word, and Beth's "wuv nae mince pies" mantra which will never join the likes of "gonny no dae that" and "sausages is the boys" in the Scottish catchphrase Hall of Fame.
