United manager has 400 games under his belt as a boss and he says it's a harder job now due to added impatience and scrutiny

- BY DAVID REID

JIM GOODWIN reckons there's an impatience with football management as he managed his 400th game in the dugout.

The Irishman started at Alloa in 2016 and reached the milestone at Dundee United's recent Premier Sports Cup defeat at Kilmarnock.

But the 43-year-old admits the dynamics of the game hasn't changed in the modern era with the evolution of social media.

With Russell Martin and Brendan Rodgers coming under scrutiny, Goodwin knows the feeling well having endured humiliating moments including a Scottish Cup giantkilling at Darvel during his spell in charge at Aberdeen two years ago.

Goodwin said: “It's a difficult job to get longevity in because you can see how quickly things can change now in the current football environment.

“[think society in general is a lot less patient now. Social media certainly plays a part in that. There can be a lot of pile-on situations.

“Maybe 20 or 30 years ago you just had the media and what was getting said on the back page, nowadays it’s 24/7 and everybody's got an opinion.

“That scrutiny has certainly increased. There's a lot more analysis done now all over the place, not just with journalists and pundits on the telly - a lot of people on social media that have good opinions as well.

“Twill one day, no doubt, look back on all these things fondly and think about the opportunities that different people gave me over the course of my career.
