GOOD LUCK ON BLOCKING HIM

- BY DALE RANKIN

RORY MCILROY mastered the art of “not trying to be a hero” as he kept himself on course for a seventh Race to Dubai crown.

The five-time Major winner carded a three-under 69 on day two of the DP World Tour Championship to share second place on nine under at the season-ending event.

Nicolai Hojgaard is three shots out in front as he looks to copy his 2023 tournament win.

However, reigning champion McIlroy remains well out in front in the season-long race as he vies to become European No.1 for a fourth year running.

The Northern Irishman, who has Ryder Cup pals Justin Rose and Shane Lowry for company in a five-way share of second, said: “I had to battle a little more than I did on Thursday.

“The conditions were slightly tougher as well. If you looked at scoring, Thursday compared to Friday, it is a little bit tougher.
