Detective praises jail sentence for 'vile' and unprovoked rampage against stranger

- BY STEPHEN BARK

A RACIST thug attacked a stranger with an axe at a train station.

CCTV captured Brian Patterson's horror assault.

In the frightening footage, the 22-year-old thug can be seen getting off a train and following his victim and a friend, after spotting them on the station's overbridge.

Patterson pestered the pair who stepped on to an escalator at Edinburgh's Waverley Station.

He can then be seen charging towards the victim before swinging the axe and striking the man.

Footage also shared by British Transport Police shows the moment Patterson was cuffed for the brutal attack.
