The legacy of the past 16 months is voter anger with the Prime Minister, and Nigel Farage on the cusp of Downing Street.

But the indications are Reeves's second Budget could be the boost Labour needs. Ditching the crazy talk about income tax rises was an important moment. Such a move would have infuriated voters.

People want to be better off and are in no mood to shoulder higher rates to bail out the Government.
