McGinn: I'm closing in on 100 caps but I'd swap them all to end 28-year curse
JOHN MCGINN has smashed through the 80 mark and is heading for a ton but would swap all his caps to play for Scotland in a World Cup finals.
The midfielder made his 80th international appearance against Greece last Thursday and followed that up in Sunday's narrow qualifying win over Belarus.
McGinn now wants to follow in the footsteps of Kenny Dalglish and reach 100 appearances for his country.
Captain Andy Robertson could well beat him to it, as he sits on 88 caps and is just three behind second-placed Jim Leighton in the all-time list.
But McGinn said: “It’s mad. I never thought I would get capped once. I pride myself on never pulling out unless I'm physically incapable of playing.
“I'll keep climbing that ladder but most importantly, getting the caps at a World Cup would be a dream come true.
“Hopefully I'll get a 100. It’s one that I'll not reflect on until campaigns are finished and my career is finished but it is a bit mad.
“When you're in the thick of it, you don't think of it as much.
“But the main aim isn't to get 100 caps. Robbo and I would swap them to make a World Cup and achieve what we've all dreamed of.”
McGinn has already been to two Euro finals under Clarke and confirmed his highlight was the night of the first qualification, when they saw off Serbia in a shootout.
