GOOD NIGHT VIENNA FOR PROUD BOSS

PROUD Jim Goodwin poured praise on his Dundee United heroes - although he warned it is only halftime and they still need to finish the job.

- BY SCOTT BURNS

GOOD NIGHT VIENNA FOR PROUD BOSS

The Tangerines boss took his side to Vienna and held Rapid to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Conference League clash.

It all now comes down to the Tannadice return and Goodwin's walking wounded has piled up with Isaac Pappoe being stretchered off with a serious knee injury in the first half.

Goodwin said: “We knew it was going to be a difficult evening against a very good Rapid team.

“I spoke about the importance of discipline and shape and players being courageous and putting their bodies on the line and we saw that in abundance. The disappointment is the goals we conceded which were really avoidable.

“For all Rapid’s good play it wasn't as if (Yevhen) Kucherenko had to pull off save after save. The first was avoidable when we dropped the runner in the six yard box and second a lapse of concentration.

“But I couldn't be more pleased with the level of commitment. We really dug deep towards the end.
