Young guns rack up record in a ridiculous romp

SCOT GEMMILL hailed his young Scots as they blasted their way to a record win after a DOZEN goals in Dundee.

Manchester City starlet Emilio Lawrence helped himself to four goals and Hearts striker James Wilson grabbed a hat-trick in an incredible one-sided romp at Dens Park.

Kyle Ure scored on his debut with Dire Mebude, sub Miller Thomson and Jeremiah Mullen also scoring and the visitors netted an own goal too.

It beat Scotland's previous best of a 7-0 win in San Marino five years ago - the perfect tonic after defeats to Czech Republic and Portugal. And Gemmill said:

SCOTLAND U21s.12 GIBRALTAR U21s.0

“It was really good to score goals and it was a strong performance. I haven't been involved in a game like that before.

“I was really pleased the players kept pushing. The intensity did drop in the second half but we challenged the players to keep going and they did that.

“There were some really good goals. I'm looking forward to seeing them again because the quality of play was really high.

“We've had a couple of days to train and it's great to see the players play how we've trained.

“Emilio is a very good young player but we need to help keep pushing and challenging them and giving them the opportunity.

“He's got that ability to score goals and beat his man and I can definitely see an improvement from when he first joined the squad to now.
