Triple tragedy at jail ruled unavoidable

THREE prisoners who died in one of Scotland's toughest jails had all consumed street valium, a sheriff has ruled.

Marius Bauba, 28, Thomas Thompson, 46, and James Garscadden, 32, were in HMP Shotts, Lanarkshire. They died between April and July 2021.

A fatal accident inquiry at Hamilton Sheriff Court heard all the men had taken etizolam, also known as street valium or Blue Plague.
