Tight head WillGriff reflects on tricky career spell before surprise recall
WALES international WillGriff John has opened up about the life of an interloping prop and admitted he considered other career options during one period of unemployment.
The Sale Sharks tighthead made a surprise return to the international scene during the Six Nations, with more than a few eyebrows raised when he was named in Warren Gatland's tournament squad in January.
However, after being thrown into the starting line-up to face Ireland in interim coach Matt Sherratt's first game, John delivered a standout performance to cap a most unlikely Test comeback three and a half years on from his last Wales appearance.
While he was not quite able to deliver the same level of performance against Scotland and England as Wales suffered yet another winless campaign, the 32-year-old admits he has been left pinching himself after making a Test return that meant so much to him.
