BLUNT WARNING TO OWNERS IN WAKE OF LAMB MAULING THAT FARMERS HAVE RIGHT TO KILL

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE Countryside and Tourism Editor andrew.forgrave@reachplc.com

POLICE have reminded dog owners their pets risk being shot by farmers if they're caught chasing sheep.

It follows the mauling of a lamb off Anglesey’s coastal path on Wednesday afternoon.

North Wales Police (NWP) said the dog’s owners fled the scene after witnessing the 15-minute attack.

The lamb, just five weeks old, was left bloodied with “significant injuries”.

It was savaged by an off-lead dog on farmland between the village of Moelfre and the popular beach at Lligwy.

The area's coastline is popular with walkers as it combines dramatic views with idyllic beaches and coves.

The NWP rural crime team said the incident occurred between 4.30pm and 4.45pm.

Officers are now trying to trace the dog’s owners and have urged people to report them if they know who they are.
