Hawk and Buckle, Llannefydd

- MARK WILLIAMS

Saturday REVIEW

THE Hawk and Buckle is a beautifully restored 17th century coaching inn, located in the village of Llannefydd, just six miles from the market town of Denbigh.

The independent free house is positioned at the crossroads of the village, and offers a pub, restaurant and rooms with a view.

Apparently, apart from the impressive country and sea views, on a clear day, you can also see the Blackpool Tower and the Cumbrian hills in the distance.

However, no matter how much I squinted, I just couldn't make out the famous tower on the horizon. The only things we could see were the wind farms, positioned just off the north Wales coast. Nevertheless, once inside, the problems of the world seemed to disappear, as the ambience of the ancient hostelry worked its magic.

The Hawk and Buckle restaurant has all the attributes you would expect from a cosy, remote pub. It has charm, bags of character, a relaxing atmosphere and a roaring log burner.

Yep, all the classic ingredients were here, old beams, a casual mix of old wood furniture with comfy sofas and wool blanket throwovers.

The new owners Paul and Christina only took over the Hawk in June 2025, and are a proud family run business. They are child-friendly with a children's play area just down the road and they welcome dogs in their garden and in the bar too.
