Oasis, foot darts and ice cream – how one school dares to be different

IT starts with a live medley of Oasis' greatest hits in school assembly. After that, the annual sports day at Ysgol Dinas Bran gets even weirder.

Traditional events, like egg-and-spoon races, have been banished at the Llangollen school. In their place are events involving a giant darts board and inflatable obstacle course.

The school grounds are transformed into a mini golf course and a large climbing structure is trundled into place presumably the Wonderwall. Just Dance sessions are available and an ice cream van is put on standby.

In a reversal of the usual format, teachers not pupils are involved in traditional sack races. On the day, no one wins and no one loses: for most of the activities, there are no leaderboards or medals. For pupils there's just one negative: teachers get to choose the day's soundtrack.
