Hemlock poisoning warning as seven cattle die

VETS are warning farmers in Wales and southwest England to be vigilant for hemlock poisoning after seven cattle were found dead ina field.

An eighth was having seizures and was shot to end its suffering.

‘Tyndale Vets, which operates across the Wales-England border, said it was the practice's second case in a week. They suspect the prolonged dry weather has exposed Hemlock roots with fatal consequences for thirsty cattle.

Early symptoms include rapid breathing, teeth grinding and muscle weakness before victims progress to seizures and paralysis. “Death follows shortly after,’ said the practice online. “There is no treatment. It can affect both cattle and sheep.”
