Fletch: Wrexham the most I have enjoyed football

VETERAN striker Steven Fletcher had to leave Wrexham despite his desire to extend his playing days in North Wales - but he has continued to warmly praise the club.

The former Premier League marksman was released at the end of last season having contributed significantly to two of the Red Dragons’ three consecutive promotions.

The 38-year-old netted eight times in 40 League One outings last term, frequently appearing as a substitute, as Wrexham clinched automatic promotion.

However, the former Scotland international was considered expendable by boss Phil Parkinson as he started preparations for Championship football.

Fletcher, who featured in the top tier with Burnley, Wolves and Sunderland during his earlier career, reflected fondly on his two-season tenure at Wrexham and the uplifting atmosphere at the club in comments that will delight Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
