Calvert-Lewin no longer on Newcastle's wish list as Toon look elsewhere

NEWCASTLE United are no longer thought to have Dominic Calvert-Lewin high on their list of transfer targets.

- By JOE THOMAS

The Magpies pursued the Everton striker last year but the prospect of a deal collapsed amid the Blues hopes for winger Yankuba Minteh to move in the opposite direction.

Calvert-Lewin is currently set to be a free agent from July 1 but a move to St James' Park, one of several places mooted as possible destinations for the centre-forward, does not appear to be on the cards.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is in the market for a forward with Callum Wilson's future at the club shrouded in uncertainty. With Champions League football back on the agenda, the Magpies are seeking to strengthen their squad depth and a back-up to main frontman Alexander Isak is considered key.

But the Newcastle Chronicle is reporting Calvert-Lewin is not believed to be central to that search with the club starting the summer by looking elsewhere for additional options up top.
