READERS SPLIT OVER CONTROVERSIAL DECISION AS PART OF £10M VENUE CYMRU REVAMP SCHEME

Cabinet was unanimous on library move... but townspeople aren't

READERS of the Daily Post's North Wales Live website have been engaging in a spirited discussion about the recent decision to relocate Llandudno Library, a topic that has elicited strong and varied opinions from the community.

The proposal to move the library to Venue Cymru has caused a lively debate, reflecting wider concerns about local governance and resource allocation.

The council cabinet unanimously voted to close the Mostyn Street library in Llandudno, with plans to relocate the service to Venue Cymru.

This decision was made following a heated response from several cabinet members to Cllr Louise Emery's revelation at a recent scrutiny committee meeting that the savings figures used to justify the library move were incorrect.

Conwy is now planning to shut down Llandudno library within the next two years and aims to secure £10 million of UK Government funds to finance a revamped Venue Cymru, which will be rebranded as an arts centre.

This decision has been made despite a public consultation revealing that 76% of 999 residents are concerned about access to the new library location, and a petition opposing the move being signed by approximately 1,100 people.
