AN Albanian man was caught trying to get into North Wales with a false passport.

- By DAVID POWELL

Viktor Dukaj had been living in the United Kingdom but made a “huge mistake” in leaving to visit his mother in Albania.

He couldn’t return lawfully so bought a false Greek passport and was caught at the Port of Holyhead in September. He admitted several offences.

‘A judge at Mold Crown Court told the 31-year-old he had flouted immigration law.

He jailed him for 55 weeks.

Dukaj travelled from Dublin by ferry to the Port of Holyhead in a car driven by his partner on September 3. He presented a false, Greek passport with a false name and false date of birth to gain entry to Wales, said Brett Williamson, prosecuting.

Immigration officials detained Dukaj. He also had a false Greek driving licence and a false Greek ID card.

They used his fingerprint records to establish he was an Albanian national. He possessed a genuine Albanian passport too.

Mr Williamson said Dukaj, who had been living in Chesterfield with a partner and son, had made several previous applications for permission to remain in the UK but been refused.
