First-ever voluntary shutdown in betting tax protest

JOHN GOSDEN is supporting racing's self-imposed walkout on September 10 in protest at the Government's tax plans that threaten to “destroy another British success story”.

Lingfield Park, Carlisle, Uttoxeter and Kempton Park were all due to stage meetings on the day before the beginning of Doncaster's St Leger Festival.

But strike action led by the British Horseracing Authority - the quartet of fixtures will now take place on rescheduled dates

All racing's regulator urges the Treasury to rethink its “racing tax” policy to raise the duty on horserace betting.

September 10 strike is the first ever voluntary shutdown in the industry.
