TRUMP. who is reported not to read books, is unaware that Sir Keir Starmer was behaving exactly like Churchill in saying no to a US president's request for British involvement in US military action when it is against our national interest. Churchill said no in 1954 when President Eisenhower requested British military assistance in Indochina.

Harold Wilson refused requests from President Johnson for UK help in Vietnam in the 1960s. Both UK prime ministers were absolutely right to do so. A YouGov poll shows the majority of Brits oppose the use of our airbases for strikes on Iran.
