THOUSANDS of dentists trained overseas will be able to treat people in the UK after a shakeup of registration exams.
Health minister Stephen Kinnock plans to increase places for the LDS exam - a test that overseas-trained dentists can take to practise in the UK - from 180 to 1,800 by 2028.
Mr Kinnock said 8,000 people were waiting to take the Licence in Dental Surgery exam.
The minister blamed "Tory neglect and incompetence" for the spiralling backlog.
But it is not clear how his plan will interact with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's proposal to make migrants wait 10 years before they can get settled status in the UK, up from five.
