Need to be clear on ID's purpose

Our personal details are already given to many organisations when we shop or sign up for anything.
There is the issue of cost, so that needs to be worked out first.
However, I am not sure how it will help stop small boat crossings or even stop people working illegally here in the UK.
If people are determined to beat the system, they will use whatever criminal means they can to get around any legislation. We need to deal with the problem directly. We should utilise our military to protect our borders and make sure the UK-France treaty works.

■ I have carried a form of ID card from age 17. First, a British Army ID card, then a police warrant card.
Now I carry an NIE in my home in Spain, which is a unique, personal ID number assigned to foreigners for economic, professional, and social purposes. It's a mandatory requirement and serves as their primary ID for administrative, legal, and financial matters.
