MAMDANI IN HISTORIC NEW YORK MAYOR WIN

DEMOCRAT Zohran Mamdani taunted Donald Trump after he became New York's first Muslim mayor in a historic election win.

The US President was fuming last night after losing in his home town.

But in a victory speech, socialist Mr Mamdani told New Yorkers: "I will wake up each morning with a singular purpose: To make this city better for you than it was the day before."

He added: "Donald Trump, since I know you're watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!"

"New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and, as of tonight, led by an immigrant.

"So hear me, President Trump, when I say this, 'To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us."

It came during a torrid night of results for Trump's Republicans on Tuesday.

Mr Mamdani was up against former Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo - standing as an independent after Mr Mamdani beat him in the Democrat primary election.
