Starmant to climb down

KEIR Starmer was last night poised to scale back digital ID plans for all workers following a mammoth backlash.

The controversial scheme, in which people must prove their right to work by showing the identification, is expected to be watered down when it is introduced in 2029.

The climbdown comes after nearly three million voters signed a petition demanding the scheme be scrapped.
