Key ally of Starmer is out of top union role

AN ally of Keir Starmer has lost the leadership of Unison and her replacement has vowed to review the major union's Labour links.
Andrea Egan was yesterday announced as general secretary with nearly 60% of the vote, defeating incumbent Christina McAnea.
The result poses a major headache for Mr Starmer, who has counted Ms McAnea as a reliable ally. Unison last year gave Labour £1.49million but Ms Egan has promised to launch a comprehensive review of its relationship with the governing party.
