Grieving widow's 'hell' as probe drags on for 8mths

- BY LUCY THORNTON

A WIDOW is “going through hell” and being “treated like a terrorist” after visiting Dignitas with her terminally ill husband.

Louise Shackleton, 58, has been waiting eight months to discover if she will be charged over Anthony's assisted suicide in December.

The grief-stricken mum said she was horrified to learn her case is being handled by the Crown Prosecution Service's Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division.

She said: "I was mortified an act of love could be treated in this way. This journey has sent me to some dark places - dark places that I never knew I could go to."

Wheelchair user Anthony, 59, suffered motor neurone disease, like rugby league legend Rob Burrow. He decided to take his own life to avoid "a grotesque and drawn-out death".

MND weakens muscles, including those needed for breathing, which is a common cause of death.

WHILE the vast majority of the world will be welcoming the peace initiative in Gaza, we need to take a moment to reflect on the tens of thousands of victims. Palestinians suffered far more, but Israelis, too, lost loved ones.
