Flooding fears as wilder and wetter autumn is tipped

FLOOD misery is on the way during a wetter-than-usual autumn, even though drought lingers in some areas.

The government's Flood Resilience Taskforce meets today for talks over flood planning and defences. Chief meteorologist Will Lang warned that western and northern England are most at risk over the autumn.

But despite the expected deluge, drought conditions could continue into winter after the record-breaking dry spring and summer.
