BUTTERFLIES are flying high at an ancient royal hunting forest, with numbers boosted after grass cutting was delayed.

National Trust groundskeepers at Hatfield Forest, Essex, put back the annual trim from June to August.

As a result, the number of different butterfly species at the reserve has hit a 17-year high of 24.
