Opposition calls for select committee to probe failure to prevent recent disaster

The opposition yesterday urged Parliament to establish a select committee to investigate what they described as a failure by authorities to prevent the recent disaster triggered by adverse weather conditions.

The call was jointly made by SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa and SJB MP Mujibur Rahman, who alleged that officials did not act on prior warnings issued by relevant agencies.
