SRI Lanka national rugby team under Tarinda Ratwatte departed for Hong Kong last night (19 June) as they prepare for their crucial second match of the Asia Rugby Top 4 Championship on 22 June.
The encounter is set to be a stiff challenge, with hosts Hong Kong eyeing direct qualification to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The second placed team in the 4-team event will get another opportunity in a home and away game against the African runner up.
Sri Lanka put up a valiant fight in their opening fixture, going down narrowly to South Korea 38/34 in Colombo. Though they led at half-time, their lack of forward depth was evident in the latter stages of the game.
