EFL powers up Northern islands with $ 11 m solar hybrid project backed by India

IN a groundbreaking milestone for renewable energy in Sri Lanka, Expo Lanka Freight Ltd. (EFL) - Project Division has successfully completed the first critical delivery phase of a transformative $ 11 million Solar Hybrid Energy Project for three remote islands off the Jaffna Peninsula, in collaboration with U Solar India and with generous assistance from the Government of India.

The project, which targets the islands of Delft, Nainativu, and Analativu, is set to revolutionise daily life by replacing costly, high-maintenance diesel generators with a clean hybrid energy solution combining solar, battery, and wind power.

EFL's mission was no simple task. The logistics required an innovative blend of land-sea-land transport to deliver a total of 105 solar module pallets across the three islands - 43 each to Nainativu and Delft, and 19 to Analativu. With narrow roads, overhanging branches, and entangled power lines on the islands, manoeuvring these massive shipments required surgical precision and relentless determination.
