JACOB RAMSEY secured England's first win in the opening game of an Under-21s tournament since 2009 after warning last week that this squad have a "different mentality".
The Young Lions have qualified for the past nine Euros but have struggled at the business end of the competition.
However, the current crop are now well placed to move into the last eight ahead of games against Israel on Sunday and Germany on Wednesday.
Head coach Lee Carsley said: "I am really pleased to get the result. The preparation has gone really well, but I didn't want to jinx us before the game by saying that. There is a brilliant spirit. We feel like we're in a good place."
