Rural favourite of ‘posh welly brigade’
A PEACEFUL downlands village is reeling after being dubbed the “new Cotswolds” — with some residents thrilled at the accolade and others utterly horrified.
Life in the West Sussex village of Fittleworth, population 1,000, centres around the Swan Inn, a community shop and cafe, two churches and a primary school.
So villagers were surprised to find it named by The Sunday Times as the “posh welly brigade’s new favourite country hangout”.
Yet it has become popular with tourists and daytrippers seeking fresh air and a bucolic setting with the Times naming it one of the 11 “coolest UK postcodes to move to”.
