In the Western film, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, what was the song played during the beating of Tuco?

Betty Williams, Irvine, North Ayrshire

A The Good, The Bad And the Ugly is a 1966 spaghetti Western directed by Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone.

With Clint Eastwood as Blondie: "the Good", Lee Van Cleef as Angel Eyes: "the Bad", and Eli Wallach as Tuco: "the Ugly" - it is the final film in the Dollars trilogy, following A Fistful Of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More.

The plot revolves around three gunslingers competing to find a fortune in buried Confederate gold amid the chaos of gunfights, hangings, American Civil War battles and prison camps. In one scene, Tuco is tortured and beaten by Angel Eyes and Corporal Wallace for information about where the gold is hidden.

The mournful ballad "The Story Of A Soldier" plays during the scene, sung by a band of captured Confederate soldiers in a Union prisoner of war camp.

Like the rest of the film's score, it was composed by Ennio Morricone and is the only music to be accompanied by lyrics.
