When it comes to your health, making sure bodily smells are normal is not just a lot of hot air - they could indicate underlying illness.
-
WIND: The average person passes wind 15 times a day. Eating certain foods such as beans or broccoli can make them smellier, as can some medications like anti-inflammatories.
Pong wrong? If you continue to experience very odorous flatulence, it can indicate an underlying condition such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).This tends to come with other symptoms, such as bloating, constipation or diarrhoea.
See your doctor if your wind comes with any altered bowel habits. This is especially important if you find blood in your stool, which could indicate piles or even colon cancer.
Lactose intolerance and gluten disorders like coeliac disease can also cause smelly gas and stomach problems. Again, see your GP as you may need to change your diet.
POO: Going for a "number two" up to three times a day, or even just three times a week, is considered run-of-the-mill. Poo should be soft and easy to pass, and it's not unusual for it to be smelly.
