Royal Navy's new £1.5bn sub dives for the first time

HMS Agamemnon - the Royal Navy’s newest submarine — has performed its first dive, the Royal Navy revealed yesterday.

The £1.5billion vessel is powered by a nuclear reactor. It never needs refuelling and can stay underwater indefinitely — limited only by the endurance of her crew.

She was commissioned last month in the presence of King Charles as the first line of defence for the UK’s nuclear deterrent and aircraft carrier task groups against hostile subs.
