PET PLAN TO LOOK AT ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE

British scientists are launching the first study to look at antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the nation's pets.

It's hoped this will show how infections pass between owners and pets, the risks, and how to reduce cases.

The World Health Organization suggests antibiotic resistance is among the greatest health threats to humanity. Drug-resistant infections kill more than 1.2 million a year globally, and this figure is expected to rise as current antibiotics lose their effectiveness.
