“Our loved ones were test subjects for infected blood”

FAMILIES who lost loved ones in the contaminated blood scandal claim their relatives were "used for research".
They say they have found medical records proving that some patients with the blood disorder haemophilia in the 1970s and 1980s were given plasma which doctors knew might contain hepatitis.
Medics wanted to study the link between a treatment called Factor VIII and the risk of infection.
However families claimed their loved ones were enrolled in these studies without their knowledge or consent.
The Factor 8 campaign group alleges clinicians lobbied to continue trials, even after identifying the risk of hepatitis.
