Nicola Bulley: Police disclosures about personal life unnecessary'

THE public release by police of tragic mum Nicola Bulley's health and alcohol issues was "avoidable and unnecessary", a damning report concluded.

Nicola went missing after dropping her two daughters at school and walking her dog by the river in St Michael's on Wyre, Lancs, on January 27.

The mortgage adviser's phone, connected to work, was found on a bench.

A search was marred by amateur sleuths and online conspiracy theories, but also by criticism of the police's lack of openness with the media - plus later revelations that Nicola, 45, had been suffering "significant issues" with alcohol and the menopause.

Her body was found in the Wyre on February 19, a mile from where she was last seen. An inquest concluded she died accidentally after falling in.

A College of Policing review into Lancashire Constabulary's handling of the case yesterday confirmed that the release of personal details on February 15 was agreed by Nicola's family.
