Centenarian hails invention of smartphone on birthday

A SECOND World War airman says the secret to a long life is daily walks and helping others - and rates smart-phones as one of the greatest inventions in his lifetime.

John Fife, who lives in a retirement home in Clevedon, North Somerset, celebrated his century with two parties attended by his family and friends. He was called up in 1943 and trained in the RAF as a wireless operator and air gunner.
