Maradona's medical team of seven on trial over death

THE long-awaited trial over the death of football legend Diego Maradona has finally begun in Argentina.

Seven members of the star’s medical team face charges of homicide by negligence.

Maradona, 60, one of the greatest players of all time, was found dead at his home near Buenos Aires in November 2020 from heart failure while recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot days earlier.

Prosecutors read a lengthy indictment to a packed courtroom that included Maradona’s ex-partner and several of his children.

They described the home as a “theatre of horror” and the conditions of care he received as “calamitous, reckless, deficient, unprecedented”.
