224mph line could be pegged back to 155mph
Work on HS2 Curzon Street station in Birmingham
TRAINS on the HS2 rail line will run slower than planned, in the latest setback to the ill-fated project.
Despite being named High Speed Two, services could run no faster than 155mph, rather than the 224mph previously expected, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander announced.
The latest downgrade comes after most of the scheme was cancelled outright, with the remaining London to Birmingham section years behind schedule and billions over budget.
HS2 was meant to have the fastest conventional trains on the planet.
