Lionesses put out Dragons' fire in the battle of Britain

ENGLAND'S Lionesses slayed the Welsh Dragons last night to clinch a quarterfinal clash against Sweden in the Euros.

But it was heartache for tournament debutantes Wales, who go home without winning any of their group D matches, after last night’s 6-1 walloping.
A penalty by Georgia Stanway after just 13 minutes set the tone as England, 25 places higher than Wales in the world rankings, dominated.
Eight minutes later Ella Toone doubled the lead as Wales suffered another defensive nightmare in Switzerland.
Spirited
Lauren Hemp made it 3-0 at the 30-minute mark with a far-post header and one minute before halftime Alessia Russo had an easy tap-in.
After the break substitute Beth Mead coolly finished off after a neat turn but spirited Wales restored some pride four minutes later when Hannah Cain leathered the ball into the roof of the net.
In the dying seconds Aggie Beever-Jones rose to nod in England’s sixth to set up the Lionesses’ clash on Thursday.
