ONCE again the outcome of a Formula One race was changed hours after the chequered flag.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished the US Grand Prix second and sixth respectively on Sunday, but were disqualified after their cars failed post-race checks.

Why? Because the rear skids part of the plank found underneath the car - had too much wear.

Hamilton's team principal at Mercedes, Toto Wolff, was quick to hold his hands up.

"Others got it right where we got it wrong and there's no wiggle room in the rules," he said. "We need to take it on the chin, do the learning, and come back stronger next weekend."
