KATE'S 'RELIEF' AT BEING IN REMISSION FROM CANCER

'I wanted to thank you for looking after me so well in the past year'

THE Princess of Wales confirmed she is in remission from cancer following an emotional visit yesterday to the hospital which treated her.

In a very personal message Kate said it was "a relief" to no longer have the disease and be focused on recovery.

She added: "As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead."

Earlier in the day she hugged other cancer patients and thanked staff for their exceptional care staff at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, West London, for their "exceptional care" and for looking after her so well.

It was the first time the NHS hospital had been revealed as the one that treated her for cancer, with her visits taking place secretly.

Yesterday Kate posted photos of her return on social media, along with the message saying she was free of cancer.

She wrote: "I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.

"My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.

"We couldn't have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional."

She also announced that she has become joint royal patron of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, alongside her husband.

Kate, who turned 43 last week, said: "It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused recovery...There on is much to look forward to.

"Thank you to everyone for your continued support."
